My cycling enthusiasm probably stems from being given a second hand chopper for Christmas when I was about nine. A swimmer in my formative years, I also enjoyed a period of being a poor triathlete, more as an enjoyable pastime than a competitive endeavour. These days I pedal back and fore the few miles between my home and work, enjoy leisurely rides with friends and family, but occasionally ride the odd sportive. As you can see from my photo, one of the things I love doing most is skiing. It gets you out there, it takes you to amazing places with amazing scenery, it allows you to breathe fresh air and it’s bloody great fun!
It’s often quoted that everybody knows somebody who has experienced cancer and of course I am no exception. Most notably my wife was diagnosed with a brain tumour 23 years before it finally claimed her. So I know what it does to the person who has it and the people around them. The endless visits to hospitals, the total chaos lives are thrown into, the ups and the downs. The faith put in medical staff, hospital treatments, various charities and the NHS itself is total. Single minded gives us a chance to show just a little bit of appreciation to some of those fabulous organisations and their fabulous people.
